Alabama Raises Liability Insurance Requirements for All Cars

Alabama Auto Insurance

A new bill in Alabama would require drivers to increase the required amount of liability insurance for their vehicles.

Until now, drivers in Alabama have been required to carry the following liability amounts: $20,000 for a single injury or death, $40,000 for multiple injuries or deaths, and $10,000 for property damage.

Alabama’s House unanimously passed a bill that would increase the minimum amount of liability insurance that drivers must be insured with. Under the new bill, drivers would be require to have $25,000 in coverage for a single injury or death, $50,000 for multiple injuries or deaths, and $25,000 for property damage.

All drivers will be required to comply with the new required liability on renewal date.

What does this all mean for drivers in Alabama? Because insurance companies will now have to comply with the increase in liability, their own bottom line will be effected as they are now on risk for more liability. This will likely mean that drivers in Alabama will see a substantial increase to their auto insurance policies next renewal. So it might not be a bad idea to start shopping around for car insurance in Alabama.
